About Us – For Adults

Let's start with some information for you adults. You're probably wondering what kind of material this is and who's behind it. 

Many of us adults want to give our children a sustainable future. A good way to start is to build a connection with nature that we can then pass on to our children and serve as good role models.

Children do as we do, not as we say. They want to imitate the people they like—to be like them and do what they do. In your family, you’re the role model, and who knows—maybe in the future, your child will be the next generation’s environmental hero!

Climate-Smart and Digital

This thematic material is designed for use at home. The idea is for you, as an adult, to read and work on these activities together with your child. This supports your child’s learning and encourages good study habits. At the same time, it gives you, as a parent, insight into learning for sustainable development.

This digital book contains easy-to-understand facts, fun quizzes, exciting activities, and engaging topics for discussion. If your child’s native language is not Swedish, you can start by reading the book in Swedish and then discuss the content in your home language.

Do Lab Work at Home

Kids don’t always have time to finish their experiments at school. That’s why this book includes exciting experiments you can do at home! Your child may also have been assigned homework to observe and document something at home or in the neighborhood, and then continue working on it in the classroom.

"Natur & Miljöboken" is the country's largest environmental education program

Svenska Kunskapsförlaget is an independent and politically neutral publishing house founded in 1993. We publish the highly popular educational resource *Natur & Miljöboken*. It is a free, three-part educational series that teaches students about our climate and explains what is needed for us to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. The print version of this environmental education series has been available for more than 25 years, and now it’s also available digitally, which means even more people can access it!

Why?

We want to leave a sustainable world for our children. To do so, we need to educate and engage children and their families on the topic of sustainable development. We do this with the help of this inspiring material. It is both scientifically sound and aligned with school goals and the curriculum. The books are updated annually and have so far been distributed to five million middle school students.

Since we also want to serve as a source of support, an asset, and a resource for the teachers who carry out the important mission of educating future generations, we have also created Teacher’s Guides for each book. To date, they have been distributed to tens of thousands of teachers throughout Sweden. 

One concrete way to slow climate change and protect the Earth's resources is to provide the younger generation with knowledge about our natural world and environment at an early age—and in a safe manner.

We tend to shut down when something feels scary or when we feel powerless. The climate issue is perceived as scary by both children and adults, albeit in different ways.

We show that it’s possible to explain what’s happening in nature and with the climate in a personal and heartfelt way—without causing anxiety or apathy, but rather inspiring action. We do this by following up each climate challenge with an inspiring example of how we’ve solved similar situations.

This educational resource is our contribution to a sustainable future. It is published in collaboration with municipalities, the business community, government agencies, and organizations. It is thanks to them—our partners—that we are able to provide Sweden’s elementary schools and students’ families with this thematic material completely free of charge.
